ABBREVIATIONS

A full list is on page 95 in Simply Knitting magazine

Notes The letters are worked throughout in garter stitch. In many cases, two ‘legs’ of the letter are worked separately at first and then joined, or begun together and are then separated. Where this occurs, left and right refer to the letter as it faces you on the right side (ie the left ‘leg’ will be on the left as you look at the letter, nearest to your left hand, and the right ‘leg’ to your right). With some letters, row numbers have been repeated for each leg in turn. For many of the letters, there are pairs of decreases and increases to make the work lean to either to the left or right without affecting the number of stitches remaining. Stitch counts are only given for rows where the number of stitches is affected.

For bag charms or key rings We suggest treating the letters with fabric stiffener or making two of the required letter and sewing them together.

For bunting or free-standing letters Sew a length of fishing thread to hold sections at the correct distance apart.
