Bringing Back Benne

BENNE BANANA BREAD WITH STREUSEL

Makes 1 (8x4-inch) loaf

Benne seeds have a particular nuttiness that lends amazing flavor to this quick bread.

Bread:

½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup mashed ripe banana (about 3 medium)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons benne seeds, toasted
1½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
