Summer is beginning to shade into autumn. I know because I’ve started picking my tomatoes. In some ways, tomatoes are the quintessential summer vegetable (although technically a fruit), but when it comes to growing them, given our weather, I’ve had to accept that they signal summer’s last post rather than summer’s charge. So what? When they come, they come in glory and in indisputable variety. Is there another vegetable (or fruit) with the diversity of the tomato?
