Sitting in the doctor’s office, my hands shook as she gave me the bad news.

‘I’m afraid it’s breast cancer, Emma.’ I was 35 years old when I found a lump in my breast, received the diagnosis that it was malignant. It was September 2015, and I was immediately referred for chemotherapy.

I knew it would be tough – and it was. The treatment made me weak and nauseous, and my hair fell out. I’d only had a couple of sessions when I picked up an infection. On 15 September, I started to feel really shivery and ill, and my temperature soared to 38.4 degrees.
