Why pay for new flower seeds every year when you can get them for free? The secret is right out in your garden: Collect seeds. It’s simple, fun and budget-friendly. And, like picking apples, it’s the perfect fall activity!

1 Identify which plants you’d like to collect seeds from — marigolds (spp. and hybrids), spider flower (), below, and flowering tobacco (spp. and hybrids) are all great options. Then, watch the plant closely. When its flowers have faded, and the seeds have turned black or the pods have started to open, it’s time. Pluck, pour or pop the seeds into a container
