EDGARS CREEK HOUSE
Edgars Creek house is emblematic of Breathe Architecture’s respect for Australia’s native landscape. Nested on the steep banks of Edgars Creek, in the inner Melbourne suburb of Coburg North, the residence quietly renegotiates existing hierarchies between construction and topography. Spinning out from a central courtyard are the home’s three pavilions – one for bathing, one for sleeping and one for living. These frame a view to the west through tall ironbark trees. Without fencing or gates, the house sits among the environment without taking ownership over it. AR speaks to project lead Madeline Sewall about collaborating with engineers to overcome the land’s steep slope and echoing the materiality of the local bush.
