The Letter Drop Buck

SEVERAL of my hunting friends had great success with “door knocking” but this wasn’t really an approach that sat well with me. So, I decided to use modern technology to facilitate a letter drop campaign to find a deer property close to home to supply me for meat and the odd trophy.

WHERE TO START? The first step was to identify locations to focus on. I found the NSW Department of Primary Industry website (DPI) a great place to start. The website included maps showing the location and density of a range of pest species. This helped narrow my search to several locations that had high deer numbers.

Then I had to refine my search. Some websites came in handy. Google Maps and Google Earth were fantastic and provided a bird’s eye view through satellite imagery. In NSW I could also access the free Government
