How to create a Coastal-style garden

AS an island nation, many of us are drawn to the coast and dream of a garden by the seaside. But having a sea view is not a prerequisite for creating your own coastal-inspired plot.

Britain’s long coastline has a range of different climates; the very mild south west of England and the west of Scotland bear the brunt of Atlantic storms, but they also benefit from the warming influence of the Gulf Stream, which keeps temperatures above freezing, allowing exotic plants to thrive. The eastern side of the country, on the other hand, is often exposed to the wind blowing off the chilly North Sea.
