William Ogle wasn’t exaggerating when he dubbed Gatlinburg the “land of paradise” more than 200 years ago.

Tucked away in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, this once remote area—originally known as “White Oak Flats” for its abundant native oak trees enveloping the landscape—is a favorite tourist destination today.
