Living through a Pandemic

All the warnings were there, but we were still surprised when it actually hit. Despite the claims (typically by political leaders) that no one could have predicted or prepared for the potential impact of a global pandemic, there is one man who understood all too well what a pandemic could mean, and paid the ultimate price. Philip Kahn, who was 100 years old, is one of the more than 50 000 Americans to die from Covid-19 to date. His twin brother Samuel died during the flu pandemic in 1919.

After contracting the virus, Philip said it was history repeating itself. We knew what a pandemic could do, but too few of us remembered, and now we are paying the price for thinking medical science has progressed to the point where a virus can no longer threaten us. And itffs not just the threat of physical harm that affects our way of life, as economies
