Introducing the Sikhs

Sikhs come mainly from the Punjab region of northern India. Punjab is where Sikhism, a monotheistic religion, was founded in the 15th century. Although some Sikhs migrated to the United States in the 19th century, their numbers increased dramatically after the passage of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. That act abolished the quota that favored Europeans and effectively denied any Asian people from immigrating to the United States.
