ith its free hamburgers and drinks for pilots, Nick’s Snack Shop, positioned near a runway magazine in 1970. When Nixon was recruited in 1945 to run for a seat in California’s 12th Congressional District, his winnings helped fund his campaign and launched a long and mostly successful political career—one forever colored by his resignation from the presidency in August 1974.
