When the subject of a midlife crisis crops up, there’s a whole swag of psychobabble simmering in the background. Most of it isn’t exactly geared positively, but boils down to a pretty basic definition. Essentially, an individual hits their mid 40s, and experiences “a transition of identity and self-confidence”. The experts reckon that, on average, a midlife crisis will last around six years, and it can throw in its share of challenges. What often happens is the individual in question — especially if male, it seems — goes out and buys a freakin’ badass car, bike, or boat. You know the ones: the bloke down the road who bought that Mitsubishi GTO when you were a kid, or that uncle who unexpectedly wobbled up to the family Christmas get-together on his new Harley.
