Calm the crying

Your child is entirely dependent on you for food, warmth and comfort, and crying is the only way for him to communicate this need. How much babies cry at any given stage varies a lot. Some infants cry excessively, well into the toddler years, while others cry very little.

How parents cope with crying and how much crying it takes to push them to desperation also varies. The unifying factor when it comes to crying is that we want to settle our babies as quickly as possible.

Sheila Kitzinger, a childbirth educator and social anthropologist, conducted interesting research into babies’ crying.
