What’s in a name?

REGARDING your piece entitled ‘No fun on the farm?’ (), I’m surprised at Defra for coming up with the inappropriate acronym ‘ELMS’ for the proposed Environmental Land Management Scheme farming subsidy. Surely Defra can’t be unaware of the fate of elms in our country—they were the victims of ‘DED’ (Dutch elm disease). I sincerely hope for a bright future for UK farming and a better acronym might be a start.
