Killer on the kids’ ward

Genene Jones seemed like any other nurse in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. A woman with an aspiration to save lives and look after children.

She joined a hospital in San Antonio, Texas, USA, in 1979, a year after starting training to become a licensed vocational nurse.

Before then, she’d been a beautician. A divorcee, Genene, then 27, had two young children, so it seemed a natural path to bring her maternal nature to nursing.

At the hospital, she was in charge
