Like a map of the Universe might lead you into its labyrinthian water bodies, intergalactic spaces, planetary topographies, mystical flora and fauna… whispers of imagined faultlines and illusory boundaries, a sense of infinity and yet tangibility. We are lucky that Jitish Kallat himself is here to expound on this work, at Mumbai’s iconic Famous Studios, where many a cine artist has performed and made iconic images. The studio is as dark and velvety as a womb, again rendering his creations as seemingly embryonic phenomena; revelatory assemblages of cells, molecular units, ideas…which will live independently in space and time. This is particularly true for , a work which commemorates and re-invokes select sounds and images that were composed for expedition into interstellar space as a planetary message to extra-terrestrial life.
