NEW FIREARMS LEGISLATION

here has been much publicity over the changes to the current firearms legislation and the GAC played a significant role is providing advice to government on the use of firearms by those who hunt large game animals. We advocated for the exemption of limited capacity sporting configuration semi-automatics used by some hunters, however government did not accept that part of our submission. There are processes underway to permit commercial hunters to retain the use of their semi-automatic firearms. There are still further changes under consideration, including firearms registration. We will continue to advocate for hunters’ interests.
