‘A ‘glorious gift’ from my geriatric pregnancy’

At 35, a year after marrying my partner of eight years, and right on cue, I fell pregnant. My husband and I knew how lucky we were that at our age it only took a few months.

Unlike some, I didn’t suffer morning sickness, which was a blessing because, as a food photographer, I was around food 24/7. I laughed with friends that my pregnancy was a ‘geriatric pregnancy’ since I was 35-plus. I certainly didn’t feel geriatric.

Like all pregnant women, between the 26- and 28-week mark I headed to the clinic for my glucose tolerance test. I quietly smiled at the other pregnant women who were, like me, sitting in a chair for two hours
