What initially drew me to architecture was not the idea of singular buildings, but the way architecture has the capacity to shape people and communities. I spent three years studying at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, where the focus was on the integration of urban design and architecture. The course and its cohort were incredibly diverse – creativity was encouraged and this enriched the design process.
As architects we reflect on human behaviour and people’s responses and interactions in the spaces we create. Good design responds to the needs of diverse groups – women, children, people from different racial backgrounds and those with disabilities. It follows that the more diverse a design team is, the greater the potential to connect
