A Moroccan Oasis

Deep in the very heart of Marrakesh’s chaotic, colorful medina lies a beautiful new garden, the enchanting Le Jardin Secret imagined by Marrakesh-based Italian developers Lauro Milan and Sante Giovanni Albonetti. They commissioned eminent English garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith to breathe new life into derelict, former palace gardens. The transformation is improbable, as is their hard-to-find location, tucked away, unseen, in the heart of a dusty, noisy souk.

The rediscovered site was once one of the largest 19th-century palaces in Marrakesh, belonging latterly to the chamberlain of Sultan Moulay Hafid. The palace and its gardens fell into disrepair following the death of its master in 1934, but a massive restoration
