Penta by Ritz & Ghougassian

Penta, designed by Ritz & Ghougassian, is a cafe in Elsternwick, Melbourne with a bold, minimalist aesthetic. A polished grey concrete floor acts as the base for an orthogonal coffee station and terrazzo-clad plinths, which form seating. Dark leather is folded loosely over stainless steel rods, giving a cushioned finish to the masonry plinths. The walls are clad in a veil of perforated aluminium that creates a sense of lightness, in juxtaposition with the heaviness of the floor, while fern trees cast leafy shadows across the cafe.
