Shake Up YOUR SALADS

Tips

When deciding on what salads to make, keep in mind the seasons, and use produce that’s widely available.

Invest in a salad spinner – they are amazing at removing excess moisture, leaving you with crispy, fresh greens that last longer.

Texture is supremely important in a salad; make sure you include a crunchy element, such as croutons or nuts.

If you’re not sure what flavour combinations work, follow a theme. For example, a Mediterranean salad would include olives, tomatoes, feta cheese and cucumber, alongside herbs such as parsley and oregano.

When packing leftover salad for lunch the next day, do not add the dressing, otherwise you’ll end up with a very soggy meal! Pack the dressing separately.

Don’t forget to season the salad to taste with salt and pepper.

Never serve a salad without a dressing – a basic one is easy to whip up. Simply combine three parts oil with one part vinegar, then add some flavours to complement your dish, such as mustard, herbs, honey or lemon.

Keep things interesting with a pop of unexpected flavour, be it pomegranate seeds, fresh herbs, toasted
