Ruger American Ranch .450 Bushmaster

RUGER’S Gunsite Scout rifle in .308 Winchester appeared in 2011 but it wasn't until 2017 that it was chambered in .450 Bushmaster, fulfilling Col. Jeff Coopers Phase II ambition that his versatile carbine should grow into a big-bore carbine (.44 calibre, or larger) that would be powerful enough to take big-game in the 1,000 pound class at ranges out to 250 yards. But it would take another six years before the late Colonel’s idea of a "Thumper" came into fruition - more or less by accident!.

In 2016 Randy’s Hunting Centre in Michigan, convinced Ruger to build a limited run of their affordable American model which would be legal for hunting whitetail deer in Michigan’s lower counties. To be legal the rifles had to be chambered for staight-walled .35 calibre or greater cartridges with case lengths between 1.16" and 1.8". The .450 Bushmaster met these specifications and sold so well that Ruger not only added the .450 Bushmaster to their list of calibres available for the American model, but also brought it out in the Gunsite Scout, which was shorter and handier for the man who hunts in heavy cover and has close-quarter encounters with game such as bears and moose. Ruger also chambered their timeless No.1 and the AR-556
