French poet Victor Hugo was quoted as saying, “As a means of contrast with the sublime, the grotesque is, in our view, the richest source that nature can offer.” He probably wasn’t talking about the contrast between camellias and bromeliads, but that was what sprang to mind, cogitating as I was on how to create contrast in the garden.
