I never had acne growing up— why do I have it now?
First off, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. Adult acne is a serious problem, and tons of women and men escape adolescence totally unscarred from teenage breakouts only to reach adulthood with a face full of acne. New York City dermatologist Dennis Gross, MD, says many factors contribute to adult-onset acne, including changing hormones, stress and genetics. “Adult acne usually begins in the late 20s to early 30s,” Gross says. “And stress is a catalyst that can play a role in aggravating the condition.” It’s no secret that planning a wedding is a hugely stressful experience, which could explain why your acne seemed to get worse as soon as preparations
