Lately, I’ve been musing on friendship. As a young girl I lived in an isolated area of Pittwater in Sydney, a boat ride to the quiet reaches of Lovett Bay where people had simple weekenders. The novelty of occasional playmates was immense. These girls led exotic lives in a different universe in the Sydney suburbs. I longed for their sporadic visits but was never part of their lives. Lesson: special friendships can be tenuous and lost.
