PEAR NECESSITIES

At their seasonal best and in ample supply in autumn, pears taste scrumptious in savoury dishes such as goat’s cheese tart or baked into a sweet treat such as a mini breakfast loaf. Take it to the next level and team pears with that other seasonal favourite, the feijoa, for a honey-drizzled crumble extraordinaire.

Roasted pear, leek & goat’s cheese tart

Ready in 1¼ hours | Serves 6

2 sheets ready-rolled shortcrust pastry
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 leek, halved and finely sliced
1 tsp caraway seeds
1 clove garlic, finely diced
1 large handful baby spinach leaves
4 eggs
½ cup cream
2 pears
1 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp lemon juice
150g goat’s cheese, sliced
Fresh baby spinach and mixed herbs, to garnish

Preheat the oven to 190°C.
