Last year, headlines resounded globally with the welcome news that the Delhi High Court and India’s Supreme Court had rescinded Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code of 1864—a major breakthrough, of course, as the ruling guaranteed, at last, basic human rights and equality under law to LGBTQ citizens of the world’s largest democracy.
