Never in history has a plant-based restaurateur found success in the way New England native Matthew Kenney has.
Even if you haven’t heard his name, you’ve heard of his world-class, worldwide restaurant empire (there’s somewhere around 25 now, though he has admittedly lost count), thumbed through one of his 13 cookbooks, or dreamed of training at one of his culinary academies. This year will mark a four-location expansion of his upscale pizza joint Double Zero (including a new frozen retail line), a batch of products ranging from cashew cheese to meal-replacement bars; a program that works with foodservice providers to introduce vegan food to institutions; and a hospitality group—Folia—which Kenney runs alongside famed vegan Saudi prince Khaled Alwaleed, bringing vegan menus to Four Seasons’ hotels.
