Elegance al fresco

IF I am going to make the effort to go on a picnic, I want it to be spectacular. Paper plates, lukewarm wine and a cheese sandwich just don’t cut it. I can, at a push, manage without tables, chairs, linen cloths and an army of butlers but there are a few essentials I can’t be without. Here are my top tips for a civilised, portable feast…

Make a list of items you need to take (it should start with a corkscrew) and get as much packed the day before as possible.
