Home Is Where S&V Is At

Eureka! After being located in temporary housing for 8 months following an involuntary displacement last November, my family moved into a more permanent rental and I finally received the latest Sound & Vision after missing a few issues. This was after 20-plus continuous years of SR and S&V! I love the speaker-laden current issue and am glad to once again be enjoying the comforts of home after wandering in the wilderness without S&V!

A Remasterful Class

Thank you for featuring Emerson, Lake & Palmer in the June/July’s issue column. ELP is my favorite band from the 1970s Prog era, release, I do own the 2000 DVD-A version, and I think it’s an awesome mix, albeit mid-fi (24-bit/48kHz 5.1 vs. 24/96 5.1 on the 2014 version). I also own the 1986 and 1993 (die cut like the original 1973 LP) releases, as well as the 1997 hologram cover with the band audio interview. What’s not to love about the swirling and churning of Keith Emerson’s Moog/Hammond setup, Carl Palmer’s tympani rolls on , and the output of Greg Lake’s bass amp, which literally cancelled my apartment’s lease via the disc’s LFE channel (I exaggerate). It was only the third DVD-Audio disc to be released, so I understand why a showy mix was needed to stir excitement for the format.
