There is no nice way of saying that South Africans will have to survive with a lot less lawn. And it’s not just because lawns are water guzzlers, but that lawn-less cities are what is sustainable.
An interesting point is that South Africa and many other countries love lawns, while residents of other countries don’t bother with them at all. Despite a sound reason for their creation, lawns have been sustained for centuries, for reasons of vanity, so let’s return to when they did make sense.
