‘Our interior designer researched a gorgeous metal kitchen island but it was hugely expensive – so ever resourceful, she commissioned a specialist to achieve the same effect with paint,’ Kate says.

‘The study is the first room you see when you walk through the front door, so I was keen to have a statement space with bright sofas,’ Kate says. ‘Amanda suggested using an almost black backdrop so that seating stands out, and colour co-ordinating the books – it’s a simple but really effective trick.’

The sitting room is smart and formal, a contemporary spin on a traditional style.
