We’re testing Blackburn’s Outpost Bike and Camp light because it’s the perfect pocket light that you can bring out at a rest stop when you need to deal with a mechanical or technical issue.

It has two settings — Bike and Trail — and in the Bike mode it delivers 400 lumens on full power and 200 on the secondary mode. This isn’t enough to illuminate the trail in any meaningful way, but it can provide enough illumination to fix a flat or adjust your gears.

To allow the Outpost to fasten to your head, hat or helmet, it has an adjustable cable. This is attached to a little spool that recoils when you press a button on the front — it’s a lot like an old ski-pass holder in that respect.
