The Togetherness Horoscope

Whenever an astrologer needs to do a reading for more than one person, he or she will calculate a detailed individual chart for both parties, analyze each chart individually, and then compare the two birth charts using a formalized process called synastry. As you might guess, this is a process that takes time and ideally requires years of training and experience on the part of the astrologer. For those of us who have a more basic knowledge of what the signs, houses, and planets mean in a single chart, much less in the charts of two people in a relationship, there is another way to get a grasp of how two people will get along, based on the unique idea of melding those two charts together into a single chart.

Astrologers call this a “composite” chart, but this writer likes to think of it as a “togetherness” horoscope. When two people are involved in a serious relationship, even though they are still individuals, as they live together they necessarily make compromises regarding goals, their living situation, and their behavior. It is not a rare thing for family and friends to think of the couple as being almost a third person, and this is where the togetherness horoscope comes in, as it allows us to consider the relationship between the two people as a whole. In this sense, it is the energy of the relationship itself that is considered.
