AWAY FROM HOME WITH / LAUREN AND MICHAEL CHARGE OF SALT

A magical beach setting where childhood memories were made seemed like the ideal spot to create a seaside getaway for Lauren and Michael Charge to enjoy as both a family affair and business venture. A visit to Salt at Shoal Bay allows the space and time to reconnect with the simple things in life, offering the clarity to find yourself, whether it be through shared family experiences or stargazing in solitude. One thing is for certain, there are many more memories yet to be made at this wonderful seaside destination.

PLEASE TELL US ABOUT YOURSELVES…

My husband, Michael and I are the owners of Salt at Shoal Bay.

We had been looking for a project to invest in, and one that would always give us a base and income in Australia, while we fuelled our lust for travel with the girls. We’ve always loved travelling and meeting new people from different walks of life.

Our inspiration was to create a beautiful space where people might be travelling with their own family and meet other families on holidays. We both have fond memories of travelling to caravan parks when we were young, where you would meet friends in the communal spaces and you would catch up with the same familiar ‘holiday friends’ each year.

My parents have also used home exchanges in the past with great success and made some lifelong friends from their hosted stays. A few years back, our own little family were in Switzerland on a hosted stay. Our girls (then five and three) didn’t speak a word of animals and teaching each other the name in their own language. It was in this moment that we knew that we wanted to expose our children to as many new experiences like this as we could.
