the LIVING DESERT
I’m sipping my coffee on the flight from Cape Town to Namibia when I hear someone in the seat behind me say: ‘Namibia is a lot like Cape Town, just without the makeup.’ I’m not too sure how true that is, but I like the sound of it.
Two hours later, we land in the capital city, Windhoek. At Hosea Kutako International Airport, I push my way through all the tourist company staffers holding up name boards and find a seat at the nearest coffee shop. Here I order a Tafel lager and wait for my fellow travellers. I feel at home already!
It’s not hard to spot tall, smiley Corinna Howard of O&L Leisure Group, followed by fellow travellers Tony Murrell and his wife, Kym. We pick up our rental car and make our way to Midgard Country Estate.
This farmstead oasis has all the trappings of a perfect retreat from city life.
