ON THE MOVE
Even though technological advancements have elevated our knowledge of the white-tailed deer, the search for additional information about this enamored species continues.
This is especially true when it comes to buck movements in the fall and winter when hunters are in the field, pursuing those elusive bucks. It’s also important to understand that there is no cookie cutter equation that can be employed to predict with even a low probability of figuring out a buck’s next move. And the more we learn about this species, the more evident it becomes that deer behavior not only varies by age, but geographical region. Even when deer of a particular area are studied over a long period of time, the probability of predicting a particular buck’s behavior remains minimal.
In other words, each animal can be characterized as an individual behaving slightly different than that of the entire group.
REGIONAL ANALYSIS
There is no dearth of scientific-based information on deer movements, but results vary on a regional basis.
