Waitrose, Castillo Perelada Brut, Cava, Penedès, Spain 91 V

£9.99 Waitrose

Made in partnership with Castillo Perelada, this top-value supermarket Cava comes from chalky slopes at 400m in Penedès. Aged for a year before disgorging, it has creamy, leesy tones, orchard fruit flavours and perky acidity to keep things fresh. A value crowd-pleaser. Alc 11.5%

Elephant Hill, Chardonnay, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand 2016 92

£19.95 Corney & Barrow, Hic

A stand-out Kiwi Chardonnay, elegant, rich and textured, from the estate’s original Te Awanga vineyard. Wild yeast and oak fermentation and maturation has given nutty creaminess and sweet oak spice to join apple, confit lemon and nectarine flavours. Will age well.
