CRYSTAL PALACE

[ Potts Point ]

HEIDI ONISFOROU ensured every inch of her glamorous Potts Point apartment in Sydney was wrapped in luxury. heidionisforou.com

I used my trademark approach to proportion, light and space. The apartment was I was inspired by a Christian Liaigre colonnade design to join the bedrooms with four large windows in a row to eschew a boxy apartment prototype. I had to crane the curved glass sliding door and 3.2-metre solid timber doors up three floors above a busy pedestrian sidewalk in the centre of Potts Point as they were too large for the elevator!  Influences of André Fu, Christian Liaigre, Gio Ponti, Peter Zumthor and Kengo Kuma – all have mastered understated luxury, which was my inspiration. The Swarovski ‘Blossom’ Chandelier over my dining table is a light and sculptural object that is always mesmerising to look at, and is a complete surprise in the living area. The light-grey stucco walls complement the Carrara hand-carved quilted feature wall in the guest ensuite. The Christopher Boots candlestick lights are a highlight of my daughter’s bedroom. Hermès equestrian wallpaper at the front entrance gives a dead area high impact. The vast scale of the apartment allowed me to install oversized artworks. Staying in the Baccarat Hotel in New York motivated me to use their calm grey colour palette with white walls and American oak flooring throughout. From the moment you enter the apartment, the understated elegance is apparent. I enjoy the calmness, and opening my glass doors to enjoy the sounds of the city.
