Heritage weekend... TIVERTON

Like something plucked from a fairytale, Tiverton, located in the heart of Devon, is awash with romantic castles, traditional thatched cottages and horse-drawn barges. Take a stroll through the surrounding quintessential English villages, and you will eventually arrive at the luscious banks of the celebrated Grand Western Canal. Known locally as the ‘Tiverton Canal’, it is home to one of the last remaining horse-drawn barges in the UK, the ‘Tivertonian’. A unique experience, the 75-seater barge has been taking visitors up and down the canal for the last 40 years, and operates to a timetable between 1 April and 31 October. Also featuring a fully licensed bar and shop, it is the perfect way to discover the canal.
