Tackling Opioid Addiction

On September 13, 2015, Eugene Monroe suited up for the NFL season opener as he and the Baltimore Ravens squared off against the Denver Broncos. The game would set the stage for a competitive NFL season and, in what may have been a surprise to many, would be Monroe’s final season opener. After sustaining a concussion in the close matchup, Monroe, an offensive tackle, would miss the next week’s game. It was this injury that helped fuel Monroe’s decision to retire from the league after only seven years. Monroe showed prowess blocking for quarterbacks, but he would do his greatest work after hanging up his cleats.
