These first weeks of summer accentuate how vast Australia is — and how varied its climate. In warm northern and coastal gardens, homegrown salads are already on the menu as are fresh fruit salads. In the colder south, salad crops are just beginning to grow and fruit is ripening. Wherever you are, keep those crops growing and productive with regular water and fertiliser. Liquid feeding leafy crops produces lots of new growth.

Get in the habit of checking the vegie garden once or twice a day. Be on the lookout
