SMARTEN UP

You’ve probably already got some basic tech devices in your home, such as a smart TV and perhaps an automated sprinkler system. Taking it up a notch, a smart home builds on that concept, creating a network of controllable automated devices that work in conjunction with each other to offer more efficiency, security and comfort.

In the past, smart technology was in reach of only the tech-savvy few or those with deep pockets. But now it’s becoming more affordable and easier to use.

There are some limitations, however. In order for it all to work, if you’re doing it yourself, devices need to be compatible — able to “talk” to each other — which isn’t always straightforward.
