GALE-FORCE ELECTRICITY
att&Sea’s award-winning hydrogenerators have long been popular with both racers (for whom its products were first created) and cruisers. But what to do if you are, say, François Gabart aboard the maxi-tri , a boat in which the main hull spends much: a magnificent piece of carbon engineering that is capable of generating power in apparent wind of up to 50 knots, with its blades positioned to leeward of the streamlined mounting leg in the interest of stability. Fully waterproof, even in storm-force conditions, the beautifully sculpted blades will generate 10 amps of electricity at 12 volts in just 20 knots of wind. At 30-plus knots apparent, the system converts to “storm mode,” allowing you to continue generating power without fear of damaging either your electrical system or the turbine itself.
