MAC MAC ULTRA

Jansen Pretorius and Cronje Oosthuizen speed through lush Mpumalanga forest during the inaugural Mac Mac Ultra 80km.

Cronje (wearing grey) was running his first 50 miler. He only realised that he and Jansen were in the same Potchefstroom Trail and Ultra WhatsApp group an hour into the race. "From there we stuck together until the end," says Cronje. "Great friends are made on trails.

"This photo was taken in the most beautiful section of the race called the Towerwoud, with many waterfalls and streams, about 20km from the finish. Both of us felt good at that stage. Maybe it had something to do with the absolutely stunning view."

Port Elizabeth's considers Mac Mac a benchmark event, despite it being the debut. This was his tenth 100 miler
