Light rail train and Citybus double-decker in late-night collision at junction in Hong Kong's Tuen Mun

A double-decker bus and a light rail train collided in Tuen Mun in the New Territories late on Thursday, causing the temporary closure of a road and six rail stops.

The incident occurred at about 11pm at the junction of Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road and Hoi Chu Road, near the Siu Lun light rail stop.

Photos taken by passengers showed the front of the route 507 train had smashed into the left side of the Citybus double-decker, with windows on both vehicles broken and the bus' luggage rack wrecked.

The floor of the bus was covered in broken glass.

No one was hurt in the accident, according to police and medical staff sent to the scene.

The bus, which was travelling on the B3 route between Shenzhen Bay Port and Tuen Mun Pier, appeared to have been turning left onto Heung Sze Wui Road when the collision occurred.

Six light rail stops were closed: Tuen Mun Pier, Siu Lun, Siu Hei, Tuen Mun Swimming Pool, Goodview Garden and Sam Shing. Four light rail routes " 505, 507, 614 and 614P " were affected.

The MTR Corporation, which operates the light rail, arranged free shuttle buses for passengers at the affected stops.

Ten days ago, two drivers and 28 passengers sustained minor injuries after a coach and a light rail train collided in Hung Shui Kiu on the eve of Lunar New Year.
