Pompeo makes unannounced visit to Iraq, hears pleas for support

BAGHDAD - Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo on Wednesday made an unannounced trip to Iraq as part of his Middle East reassurance campaign, and heard pleas for more help in fighting Islamic State militants.

Pompeo is attempting to explain to Arab allies President Donald Trump's abrupt decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria and the many conflicting accounts of whether there is a timetable for the pullout and what it might be.
