The aesthetics of African art carries a magical power for anyone interested in the visual arts. Art itself is a portrait of a culture in motion, expressed in forms that also include drama, dance and music. Artists already emerged in the primitive age, with cave paintings and the like; later on in the Egyptian, Greek and Roman civilisations, through to the Renaissance and modern times, not forgetting the great civilizations of Asia and the Americas. These artists reproduced what they saw in their own way, what they found beautiful and appealing – people, nature, shapes, colours.
